Hue City, Vietnam

City Spotlight

Huế, in central Vietnam, served as the imperial capital under the Nguyễn dynasty from 1802 to 1945 and remains the country’s most intact royal-era city. Its culture reflects court traditions, seen in refined cuisine like bún bò Huế and preserved royal music recognized by UNESCO. Daily life centers along the Perfume River. The city’s defining architecture includes the Imperial City of Huế and a network of royal tombs that blend Vietnamese planning with later European influences. Many were restored after damage during the Battle of Huế. Today, Huế grows through tourism, education, and infrastructure upgrades such as Phu Bai International Airport, while development remains controlled to protect its historic landscape.
